Ayurveda gives a prime importance to Aushadha/medicine. It is included as one among the four limbs of treatment (other three are Vaidya/doctor, Paricharaka / nurse, Rogi patient). According to Ayurveda,
“YOGADAPI VISHAM TEEKSHNAM UTTAMAM BHESHAJAM BHAVED”
According to Ayurveda everything in this universe is considered as medicine. Even proper amount of toxin is also considered as medicine.
What is medicine then?
Medicine helps to overcome the diseases. Broadly we can say each medicine in Ayurveda is,
1) That used for healthy person to prevent the diseases
2) That used to cure diseases
3)That used to increase immunity after treatment
If we know the core ideology behind the treatment principles of Ayurveda, it is quiet easy to administer the medicines to any living beings, weather it is trees or animals.
The present world always run behind the research values from developed countries and leading research papers. These researches are more accepted than clinical evidences and its values especially for Ayurveda, siddha etc. Most of the time research is happened somewhere in the globe and the result is used for the whole population of the world. With that research the standardization of medicine and its dose will b be generalized all over the world. Also, the values and the medicines will be keep on changing within short span of time. It is not stating that researches are bad but it should be,
1) Follow the basic principles of the science.
2) It should be done with the generalization on the population characteristics, immunity, climate etc.
3)The involved persons should be educated well about the science and its principles for a better result.
The problem is the research methodology following presently does not satisfy the ideas of Ayurveda. A single preparation itself contains 100 and 1000 of chemical constituents at a time. A single chemical constituent itself will take a lot of time to prove its effects and side effects through researches.
But clinically we can see the effects of medicine on particular diseases symptomatically. On the other side it increases the general immunity of the person and so reoccurrence will be minimum. It should be either conducted in the base of clinical evidences or it should be conducted through a comparative study on symptomatic differences before and after treatments or a comparison on different medical systems on same conditions of different individuals.
Ayurvedic medicines in a systematic treatment will act as follows,
1)Eliminates the disease from its root cause.
2)Give immunity to prevent the diseases from reoccurrence.
3)Gives support to the other systems of the body.
There are numerous preparations in Ayurveda for a single disease. The medicine will vary according to the character of the disease, diseased person, climate, age, strength etc. Medicine collection is also with at most care and consciousness. This session we can discuss later as it needs special attention.
After all it is all about the equanimity with nature and our body, if that is established the health is gained.
